Five Must-Attend #HRTechConf 2015 Sessions

“HR Tech is closer to a marathon than a sprint,” notes the event’s Co-Chair Steve Boese (@SteveBoese) in his annual conference tips post.

We couldn’t agree more: With as many as 10 sessions running at the same time (and an expo floor with 300+ exhibitors vying for your attention), it can be difficult to wade through all the content in the agenda to find out which speakers are worth your while. And with employee engagement and culture becoming the number one challenge companies face worldwide, according to Bersin by Deloitte, there is a plethora of sessions focusing on this very topic.

Here is a list of five must-attend HR Tech Conference sessions for 2015 that promise to give you real, actionable tips you can use as a strategic HR professional:

#1. Keynote: Data-Driven Strategies for Revitalizing Engagement and Performance Management Monday, October 19th at 8:45 a.m.

When it comes to employee engagement, the focus is often on what motivates individuals within a group. But in the opening keynote, Marcus Buckingham (@mwbuckingham) — a leading authority on management and leadership — will offer a different point of view, looking at performance and engagement from the perspective of group dynamics. If elevating your organization’s leaders and building high performing teams is a priority for your organization, then this is a session you won’t want to miss.

#2. Fueling Engagement and Accelerating Performance at Hampton Monday, October 19th at 11 a.m.

You can pour all the budget you can into employee engagement initiatives, but without strong team leaders who inspire people, all that effort will be for naught. In this session, Hampton’s brand culture guru Gina Valenti (@ginamvalenti) and Jason Averbook (@jasonaverbook), CEO of The Marcus Buckingham Company, will discuss how shifting to a focus on the team leader can fuel engagement, accelerate performance and power culture. Gina will also share how Hampton (ranked as one of Entrepreneur Magazine’s Top 10 Franchises in 2014) is empowering its team leaders to be self-aware, perceptive and authentic.

#3. CHRO Perspectives on HR Tech Monday, October 19th at 3:30 p.m.

Real-world perspectives, combined with analyst expertise, make this a must attend session. Here, a panel of CHROs — led by one of HR’s most influential experts, Josh Bersin (@Josh_Bersin) — will discuss their perspectives on all things HR tech. As an HR leader, you can expect to walk away from this panel with some tips on how to make your HR technology investments successful, cost-effective, and strategic.

#4. Awesome New Technologies for HR Tuesday, October 20th at 8:30 a.m.
Okay, I’ll admit that I do have a bias towards this session: As one of six vendors participating in the Awesome New Technologies for HR session, Visier (@VisierAnalytics) will be showcasing the future of Workforce Planning, and demonstrating how successful HR leaders don’t just report on what happened in the past, they ask ‘what if?’ and use data and models to proactively optimize business outcomes. If you are resolving to make your HR function more collaborative, predictive, and strategic, mark this event in your calendar.

#5. Employee Engagement: What’s It Really Worth? Tuesday, October 20th at 4 p.m.

Quantifying the impact of an engaged workforce is tricky – in fact, a survey we conducted with Harris Poll shows that 60% of executives do not know the ROI of employee engagement programs. But in this session, you will learn that demonstrating ROI is not an impossible feat: Glassdoor’s (@GDforEmployers) Chief Economist, Dr. Andrew Chamberlain (@adchamberlain), will share insights on the correlation between employee sentiment and business results. This session is a must-have for anyone looking to learn the key drivers of employee engagement based on economic research.
