What is full cycle recruiting?

Full cycle recruiting is a process whereby a single individual is responsible for overseeing the recruitment and hiring of an employee through every stage of the process. Also referred to as full life cycle recruiting this process contrasts with the process of having multiple people handling individual aspects of the recruitment process.

Benefits of full cycle recruiting

One of the big benefits of full cycle recruiting is ensuring that a single individual has accountability for the entire hiring process. This minimizes the risk of steps being missed or breakdowns occurring.

When they have total control over the process, recruiters also find that they can streamline the process and reduce time to hire.

Candidates also find benefits in the full cycle recruiting process, reporting that they have a more positive experience. One specific area that ensures this positive experience is having a single point of contact to turn to for any questions or for updates on the process.

It’s important to understand the potential drawbacks of full cycle recruiting as well.

Potential drawbacks of full cycle recruiting

Full cycle recruiting is not the best option for all organizations. In fact, it tends to work best in small organizations where the person responsible for hiring does not have too many candidates to work with simultaneously.

Another drawback is that, to be effective, full cycle recruiting requires the individual managing the process to be skilled in a variety of aspects of the hiring process—from sourcing, to interviewing, to negotiating the offer, to onboarding the new employee.

Still, especially for small organizations, full cycle recruiting can be a pivotal way to streamline and improve the hiring process.

Steps in full cycle recruiting

The steps in full cycle recruiting are the same as in other types of recruiting processes. Again, the major distinction is that a single individual is handling the entire process. The steps in the process typically include:

  • Preparing the job description.

  • Finding candidates.

  • Evaluating candidates and narrowing the list of potential interviewees.

  • Interviewing candidates.

  • Making a job offer.

  • Onboarding the new hire.

Full cycle recruiting can help to both streamline the hiring process and improve the candidate experience. While it’s most common in small to mid-size organizations, it is a process that larger organizations may consider as well.
